Turbines: 31 Siemen Gamesa SWT130 wind turbines Maximum capacity: 113 MW Average annual output: 455 GWh Investment: NZ $277Million
Construction was completed on Waipipi Wind Farm in March 2021. The wind farm consists of 31 wind turbines connected to the Transpower 110kV network via a 11 kilometres of 110kV transmission line to the Waverley Substation.
The Waipipi Wind Farm produces enough clean energy each year to power about 65,000 homes and save the emission of roughly 250,000 tonnes of carbon.
The wind farm has been designed and constructed in response to various environmental assessments – particularly those relating to visual amenity, natural character, coastal hazards, noise, ecology, avifauna and heritage matters.
The Waipipi Community Fund has been established to support organisations and projects that benefit the broader community around the wind farm by providing funding towards projects, goods or services.
