CHIEF EXECUTIVE

Stew became Mercury’s Chief Executive in September 2024. He joined Mercury in 2021 as the Executive General Manager, Generation, and was responsible for the management, operation and maintenance of our electricity generation assets.

Before joining Mercury, Stew was the Chief Executive at New Zealand Aluminium Smelters Ltd and has over 25 years’ experience working for industrial energy customers in mining, minerals processing and manufacturing in Australia, New Zealand and Africa.

Stew has a Chemical Engineering degree from Auckland University and an MBA from Melbourne University. With a proven track record of success in leading large, complex businesses, he is well placed to ensure Mercury capitalises and builds on its strong platform for growth.

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Richard oversees Mercury’s financial strategy and operations.

Richard joined Mercury in 2025 bringing over 25 years of experience in finance and primary industries. Before joining Mercury, he was the CFO of Zespri International Ltd and held roles at Ballance Agri-Nutrients, HSBC, Credit Suisse, and Westpac. Richard holds a degree in Finance and excels in corporate finance, M&A, business transformation, and strategy development.

CHIEF PEOPLE OFFICER

Michele Mauger joined Mercury in 2026, bringing more than 35 years’ experience across people and culture, including nearly two decades in executive leadership roles.

Michele has led people functions across a range of industries and geographies, with experience spanning business transformation, organisational change and the full employee lifecycle. She joined Mercury from Vocus in Melbourne and was previously Chief People Officer at Cleanaway. Michele has also held executive leadership roles with Incitec Pivot, Metro Trains Melbourne, Thiess and Worley Parsons.

CHIEF CUSTOMER OFFICER

Suraiya leads Mercury’s customer strategy. This includes a focus on innovation and delivering value and care to customers and their evolving needs.

Suraiya joined Mercury in 2025 bringing more than 20 years’ local and international experience in customer strategy, marketing and brand across financial services, telecommunications, and technology, including executive level roles at Suncorp NZ and Westpac NZ.

CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER - GENERATION

Kevin oversees the safe operation and maintenance of Mercury's electricity generation assets.

Kevin joined Mercury in 2025, bringing over three decades of experience in large industry, focusing on operational excellence, risk management, and safety leadership. Most recently, Kevin was General Manager (Operations) supporting multiple Rio Tinto Sites and has previously been General Manager of operations in both Queensland and Tasmania. Kevin strives to build high performing teams and to deliver safe, quality outcomes.

CHIEF STRATEGY AND CORPORATE AFFAIRS OFFICER

Catherine leads Mercury’s strategy, growth, sustainability, and corporate affairs functions, helping align the company’s strategic direction, environmental and social performance, and stakeholder relationships with long-term value creation.

Catherine joined Mercury in 2025, bringing more than 30 years’ experience across the energy and legal sectors, including senior executive roles in Aotearoa’s large listed companies. She has deep expertise in strategy, sustainability, consenting, corporate affairs, and risk management.

EXECUTIVE GM WHOLESALE

Tim is responsible for managing Mercury’s overall electricity portfolio with specific responsibility for all wholesale market activities and sales to large commercial and industrial customers.

Tim joined Mercury in 2005 and has held a range of roles across the business including GM Wholesale and Head of Treasury and Investor Relations.

EXECUTIVE GM GENERATION DEVELOPMENT

Matt leads Mercury’s generation development and is responsible for planning, developing and delivering new renewable generation.

Matt joined Mercury in 2022 and is an infrastructure professional and engineer with 20 years’ experience developing and delivering large and complex utility infrastructure in the US and NZ.
