THE KAIWERA DOWNS WIND FARM.
The Kaiwera Downs wind farm is being built 15km southeast of Gore in the South Island. We will be working with our contractors to erect 10 x 4.3MW Vestas wind turbines and build the associated infrastructure, including a transmission line. We plan to complete construction of Stage 1 of the wind farm with the first 10 turbines operational by the end of 2023.
Project Status:
Construction announced September 2022 and crews on site from October 2022.
Maximum Capacity:
Kaiwera Downs Wind Farm Stage I will have capacity of 43MW (generating an average of 148 GWh each year). That’s enough to power over 20,000 homes or 66,000 electric vehicles.
Location:
The area proposed for the wind farm is located 11km east of Mataura just off SH19 between Clinton and Mataura.
Turbines:
10 x V136 Vestas turbines.
Blade Tip Height:
145 meters.
Transmission Connection:
18km new 33kV line back to the Gore PowerNet/ Transpower substation.
