LANDLINE CHARGES (OPTIONAL)

Fibre Landline

  • MONTHLY CHARGE: $5

The optional landline service connects you to the public phone network so you can make free local calls. Any calls made to national, international and mobile numbers will be charged at their standard rate. You can choose from a variety of additional calling packages.

ADDITIONAL DATA CHARGES

Additional data packs are only available on our capped 120GB wireless broadband plan and charged at $10 for 10GB. Data packs are either automatically or manually applied. A one off 10GB data pack is automatically applied when the full monthly data allowance on your capped wireless broadbandplan has been consumed (if no manual data packs have been added already, otherwise it will activate after the manually added data pack has been consumed). There is only one automatically applied data pack available per month. There are 4 manual data packs available for purchase per month for the capped wireless broadband plans. Data packs are available for use for 30 days from purchase.

We’ll send you an email and/or text once you reach 80% of your monthly data allowance, and again once you reach 100%.

SET UP CHARGES

Fibre broadband comes with an eero router. You can purchase an extra eero router from Mercury for a one-off payment of $120 per router, including GST. You can also pay this over 24 months in interest-free monthly instalments of $5 per router. You can use your own router

instead†.

Wireless broadband comes with a Mercury router. Sometimes this may be a refurbished device that has undergone thorough testing to ensure it meets our quality and performance standards. Mercury will provide this router to you as a free rental for the duration of your wireless broadband service.

A $14.95 postage and handling charge applies if we need to send you a router.

† Please be aware that use of an incompatible router may degrade the performance of your broadband service.

OTHER CHARGES

There is no upfront installation charge for standard fibre aside from router postage and handling. However, if your home is more than 200m from where the fibre cable access point is on the street, or you need additional in-house wiring installed, there may be an additional installation cost.

If you cancel your fibre services after the local fibre company has commenced the installation process, but before your services are live, charges may apply.

Find out more about the installation process.

Electricity and gas (if applicable) charges will also apply for your energy services.

BROADBAND PERFORMANCE

PERFORMANCE

Actual speeds you experience are affected by many factors, including the device you are using and its capabilities, the number of devices connected, your operating system and web browser, and whether you’re connecting wirelessly to your router.

If you have a router supplied by Mercury, it is capable of providing the expected peak time average speeds for your plan, subject to the factors described above. If you are using a router not supplied by Mercury (where applicable), you may not be capable of receiving the stated speeds.

For wireless broadband services, additional factors such as your distance from a cell tower, network capability, and how many other users are connected to that tower can also impact performance. A Mercury-supplied router is required for wireless broadband services.

Find out more about factors that may influence your speed.

OTHER INFORMATION

MINIMUM CONTRACT PERIOD

This electricity and broadband bundle offer has a 2 year contract term.

EARLY TERMINATION FEE

If you cancel your plan, or switch your electricity or broadband provider before your term ends, you’ll need to pay an early termination fee. The fee starts at $650 in month one and reduces by $27.08 each month over the term.

NOTICE PERIOD (TERMINATION)

After the end of the term, you can cancel your services at any time by giving us at least 5 working days’ notice. You’ll be responsible for any charges until your disconnection date.

View our phone and internet terms for more information.

TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT

Mercury does not currently apply any traffic shaping or speed restrictions to fibre broadband customers.

From a connectivity perspective, unlimited data plans are treated the same as limited or capped data plans.

Network usage is typically highest between 3:30pm and 11:00pm. During these peak periods, customers may experience some congestion, which can affect performance. We continually monitor our network to provide the best possible service and minimise the impact of congestion.

While we do not currently manage traffic on unlimited fibre broadband plans, we reserve the right to introduce traffic management policies in the future if required.

Wireless broadband services may be subject to traffic management during periods of high demand. This may include temporarily limiting download or upload speeds at peak times to help maintain network performance and provide the best possible experience for all customers.

SERVICE RESTRICTIONS

We have a service restriction policy in place which may influence your broadband performance.

See clause 5.5 of the phone and internet terms.

FAIR USE POLICY

No fair use policy applies.

EFFECTS ON OTHER SERVICES

Your broadband service requires mains electricity to operate. If electricity is not available (e.g. during a local electricity outage) then your broadband, and any services which run over it, may stop working unless you have battery backup in your home.

This means services such as landlines, medical alarms, and security alarms may stop working. It is your responsibility to check with the provider of existing services to make sure they will operate under such circumstances. This may also mean you’re unable to contact 111 in an emergency. We recommend having a charged mobile or alternative arrangement in place.
