Mercury is getting behind Starship during Barfoot & Thompson’s 2025 Quiz Night, by offering One Year of Power and One Year of Broadband for silent auction (the “Auction Item”). We’ve put together the following Terms and Conditions which you’ll need to agree to as part of placing your bid.
One Year of Power
As the auction winner, you will receive a credit on your energy supply invoices, each month for 12 consecutive months, up to a maximum of $300 per month. Depending on your billing cycle, this credit may be processed and applied on a different cycle to your monthly bill. The credit will only apply to electricity charges (including your daily fixed charge, variable usage charges, GST and the Electricity Authority Levy) and excludes all gas charges, special charges and service charges. You must pay for any charges on your invoice, over $300.
If you are a current Mercury customer, we will use the price plan that you are on five working days before your 12 months of free power starts, to work out your fixed and variable charges. You will pay the applicable rates for any electricity supplied after the expiry of the one-year period.
If you aren’t a current Mercury customer, you will need to switch to Mercury. We will put you on Mercury's standard price plan to work out your fixed and variable charges. Mercury is not obliged to provide you with the services unless we accept your application, and you meet required credit and eligibility criteria. You will pay the applicable rates for any electricity supplied after the expiry of the one-year period.
To be crystal clear, the One Year of Power is a 12-month period where you'll get up to $300 of electricity charges credited back to you each month by Mercury. If your electricity charges in a given month are equal to or greater than $300, you will receive a $300 credit for that month, and if they are less than $300, you will receive a credit equal to that amount.
Using smart meters, Mercury can work out exactly how much power you use to work out the monthly credit for your electricity charges (if they're less than $300). If we can’t work out your usage for any reason, we won't be able to work out exactly how much power you used to apply the monthly credit. In this situation, we'll apply a $300 credit to your account to make sure you don't miss out.
The Auction Item is not transferable outside of your household or redeemable for cash.
Mercury's General Residential Terms and Conditions and Electricity & Piped Gas Terms will apply to the supply of electricity.
One Year of Broadband
You will get a credit on your broadband supply invoices, each month for 12 consecutive months, up to a maximum of $111 per month. Depending on your billing cycle, this credit may be processed and applied on a different cycle to your monthly bill. The credit will only apply to broadband charges and will exclude the purchase of any Mercury routers, listed below in ‘Router details’, clause 15. If a Mercury router is selected, this charge will appear on your first broadband bill. If your broadband charges are greater than $111 per month you must pay the additional charges.
If the auction winner does not have a current broadband plan with Mercury, the winner will need to select one of Mercury's unlimited naked fibre broadband plans on a one-year fixed term offer, either:
FibreClassic at $96 per month; or
FibreMax at $111 per month; and
If Fibre broadband is not available in your area, then the next available wireless broadband will be offered up to the value of $111 per month with a free router.
Mercury is not obliged to provide you with the services unless we accept your application, and you meet required credit and eligibility criteria.
Please note this does not include a landline and Mercury does not offer static IP addresses.
Router details
- Unless you bring your own router, you will need to purchase one of Mercury's routers to access Mercury broadband:
eero 6+ - ($120)
eero 6+ - 2 pack ($240)
eero 6+ – 3 pack ($360)
The charge for the router you select will appear on your first broadband bill.
Mercury's General Residential Terms and Conditions and Phone & Broadband Terms will apply to the supply of broadband.
Other Conditions
Sounds obvious, but if you switch to another retailer during the one-year period when Mercury is applying the credits, you will not be able to claim any remaining credits.
You can’t sign up to any other Mercury offer during the one-year period.
Winning the Auction
The auction winner will be the bidder who places the highest silent auction bid for One Year of Power and One year of Broadband at the Quiz Night for Starship 28 August 2025.
The auction winner will be contacted by Barfoot & Thompson who will notify Mercury with the auction winners' details. Mercury will then get in touch with the winner by 6 September 2025 to confirm the start date for the One Year of Power and One Year of Broadband to commence.
Privacy
Mercury is committed to protecting your privacy. Mercury will only collect and use your details for the purposes of issuing this Auction Item, and for providing you with Mercury’s services, as a Mercury customer. You agree to Barfoot & Thompson providing Mercury with your details for the purposes of providing the Auction Item.
Mercury’s Privacy Policy will apply.
The Legal Stuff
Mercury and its suppliers will not be liable to you or any person for any direct, indirect, or consequential liability, loss, expenses, or damage whatsoever, however arising, whether in contract, tort, negligence or otherwise, in connection with the Barfoot & Thompson Quiz Night for Starship or the Auction Item.
