Mercury celebrates 50,000 mobile connections

Mercury Mobile has reached 50,000 connections, marking a major milestone in Mercury’s ambition to become one of New Zealand’s leading multi-product home services providers.

It is a significant moment for a business that started from zero mobile connections just six years ago.

Since launching mobile services in 2020, Mercury has steadily grown its mobile customer base by making it easier for customers to bring more of their home services together. That momentum has accelerated over the past two years, supported by stronger bundled offers, focused acquisition campaigns, more data for customers and continued investment in mobile capability.

The milestone supports Mercury’s broader ambition to reach 1 million total connections by 2028 across electricity, gas, broadband and mobile.

Mercury Mobile connections have grown from launch in 2020 to 50,000 in early August 2026, with momentum accelerating through 2025 and 2026.

Mercury Chief Customer Officer Suraiya Phillimore-Smith says reaching 50,000 mobile connections is a proud milestone for the business and reflects the value customers see in bringing more of their home services together with Mercury.

“Mobile started as a new capability for the business and has grown into an important part of our customer offer,” Suraiya says.

“Reaching 50,000 connections is a great example of what can happen when we keep things simple for customers and bring together the services Kiwi households use every day.

“This milestone has been built through a huge amount of focused work across our product, technology, marketing, sales, care, operations and partner teams, alongside strong support from Spark Wholesale.

“Most importantly, it shows that customers see value in having more of their everyday services with Mercury. That gives us a strong platform for the next phase of growth.”

“Reaching 50,000 connections is a milestone worth celebrating, but it is not the end point,” Suraiya says.

“The next phase is about building on these foundations, listening to customers, and continuing to make Mercury a simple, useful and good-value choice for more of their home services.”

Mercury’s mobile growth supports its broader ambition to become New Zealand’s leading multi-product home services provider, with a target of 1 million total connections by 2028.

Mercury’s purpose is Tiakina te anamata, mā te tūhono i ngā tāngata me ngā wāhi o te inamata — taking care of tomorrow, connecting people in place today.

Reaching 50,000 mobile connections is another step in bringing that purpose to life for customers across Aotearoa New Zealand.
