Ōhākurī Dam is a gravity earth dam with concrete intake and spillway structures. There is a diversion tunnel and the gate for this was refurbished in FY20.
At 12km2, Lake Ōhakuri is the largest lake in storage terms on the Waikato River. 

The turbines for all for machines were replaced 2011-2014.

We plan to upgrade the generators and governors in 2029-2032 increasing the annual output by 10GWh.
