Ōhākurī Dam is a gravity earth dam with concrete intake and spillway structures. There is a diversion tunnel and the gate for this was refurbished in FY20.
At 12km², Lake Ōhakuri is the largest lake in storage terms on the Waikato River. 

The turbines for all for machines were replaced 2011-2014.

We plan to upgrade the generators and governors in 2029-2032 increasing the annual output by 10GWh.
