Opened: 2010
Installed Capacity: 139MW
Annual Average Output: 755 GWh

Ngā Awa Pūrua geothermal station is located near the Rotokawa geothermal station on the Rotokawa geothermal field, 14km northeast of Taupō.

It is one of the largest geothermal stations in New Zealand. It is jointly owned by Tauhara North No.2 Trust (35%) and Mercury (65%).

It is a Fujielectric-Sumitomo triple flash plant.

Each well is drilled to an average depth of 2500 metres. Once the steam has passed through the turbine it is transferred to the cooling tower.

The cooling tower has 10 fans which are 10 metres in diameter and spin at 99 revolutions per minute to cool the steam condensate. The majority of the cooled steam condensate is re-injected into the ground.
