Outages and faults

Unfortunately, there are a number of reasons why your power or hot water can go out. Here's what to do:

  •  check the outage with your lines network. If the outage is not known, contact the appropriate faults line
  •  be prepared for an outage
  •  check on neighbours to ensure they are safe and comfortable (let's stick together!)
  •  if someone in your home (or neighbourhood) relies on power for medical purposes, please ensure they are safe. If necessary, please contact your healthcare provider or call 111 in an emergency

Rough weather?

Storms have the ability to cause power outages so it is important to be prepared.

If your power goes out, follow the steps above. Once a job is logged, please keep the phone lines open for others - rest assured that your lines network will be working hard to fix outages as quickly as possible.

If someone in your home or neighbourhood relies on power for medical reasons, please ensure they are safe. In an emergency call 111.

For information on being prepared for storms and inclement weather, please see the tips at Get Thru.

You can also stay updated on weather warning and watches on the Metservice website.

How to be prepared for an outage

01.

if there's a weather warning in place, charge your phone while you can (and anything else you may need)

02.

grab a few torches (or candles for mood lighting)

03.

dig out a thermos or two for keeping boiled water hot

04.

make sure you can easily access a gas cooker or BBQ for cooking

05.

plug-in an old school corded phone as these do not need mains power to work

Check out the Get Thru site for more detailed information on how to prepare for an emergency - which inlcudes some useful tips for when the power is out.
