If someone in your home (or neighbourhood) relies on electricity for medical reasons, please ensure they are safe. If necessary, please contact your healthcare provider or call 111 in an emergency.

- Make sure the elements on your stove, heaters and all other appliances are turned off to ensure they don’t turn back on unnoticed.
- Unplug electronics, such as your TV, computer and stereo to prevent damage from electrical surges.
- Your fridge and freezer will maintain their temperature for quite a while after the electricity goes out. If you need to open the doors, be as quick as possible.

BE PREPARED FOR AN OUTAGE
- Keep a torch and batteries in an easily accessible location.
- Don’t rely on the internet or a landline phone to contact people—they might not work in an electricity outage. Keep a mobile phone handy, and regularly check USB power banks are fully charged.
- Consider using surge protectors on electronics to avoid any damage from an electrical surge.Have a cooking alternative handy that doesn’t rely on electricity, such as a gas BBQ.
- If you have a backup electricity supply, make sure you know how to operate it.
- Keep a battery-operated radio handy to stay up to date on any emergencies.Store bottled water (if you rely on electricity to pump your water).
