HANNAH HAMLING TO JOIN MERCURY BOARD.

3 December 2019 – Environmental and sustainable development expert, Hannah Hamling, has been appointed to the Mercury board effective 1 February 2020.

Ms Hamling fills a vacancy created by the retirement from the board in September of former Chair Joan Withers.

Auckland-based Ms Hamling is President of the Asia Pacific Region for Golder, a global ground engineering and environmental science company with over 6,500 personnel worldwide. She has more than 30 years consulting experience, and 20 years in management and board roles.

Mercury Chair Prue Flacks said she was delighted to welcome Ms Hamling to the Mercury board.

“Hannah’s strong environmental science background and her experience in water management issues are particularly relevant to Mercury and its place in a world facing some critical climate-related challenges and opportunities,” Ms Flacks said.

“Hannah’s background along with her governance skills will complement the board’s collective capabilities, a review of which has recently been completed.”

“We have been working carefully towards this appointment, so that our board remains well balanced with the skills, experience and diversity appropriate to guide Mercury over the long term in a dynamic and highly competitive environment,” Ms Flacks said.

Under Mercury’s constitution, Ms Hamling is required to retire at the next Annual Shareholders’ Meeting in September 2020 and stand for election by shareholders at that meeting.
