Paula Goes the e.Route.

Paula goes the e.route

If you’re in the delivery business, how do you minimise the sting of petrol costs? That is the question e.revolutionary Paula asked herself one day.

You see, Paula is a Pace courier driver for NZ Post. Three years ago, a colleague and friend suggested she make the switch to electric. She purchased a Nissan Leaf, and since then has never looked back. “I loved it from the get-go. It’s a nice quiet car to drive and so much smoother to drive than a petrol-powered car.”

Although Paula also uses her Leaf as a personal car, it’s the benefits to her business that has changed everything. “As a courier I would use so much petrol, but now I don’t have to worry about those fees. My running costs are so low now.”

Paula finds that if she charges up at home, she can cover her whole day (130 kms) for around $2.50 to $4.00. If she tops up in town, it’s only around $8 to $10. It’s a massive cost saving and even more impressive, her drive takes her all-around hilly Wellington. According to her, the boot space of the Leaf has ample space for parcels too, and the maintenance costs are phenomenal because there are less moving parts. “In the past 3 years, I’ve only done one bit of maintenance work on the car.”

Beyond just making good business sense, Paula is also enjoying the fact that she now feels part of a bigger community. When she sees other like-minded individuals charging up, she loves to have a yarn, and share in the good vibes the electric revolution is bringing to New Zealand. She is also happy to report that Wellington’s charging stations are getting better and better. “Charging is quick too, it’s usually about 20-25 minutes to get to 90% full.”

All said and done, there’s no doubt that electric has truly delivered for this proud courier from Wellington. Paula tells us she has well and truly kissed oil goodbye for good.
