Fraser Whineray // Chief Executive

Fraser joined us in 2008 and became Chief Executive in September 2014. Previously, Fraser held senior roles in the dairy, forestry and finance sectors, with extensive experience in performance management, strategy, mergers and acquisitions and international business.



Kevin Angland image

Kevin Angland // General Manager Retail & Digital

Kevin is at the heart of our journey in customer-led innovation. He has a breadth of experience in digital transformation and delivering some of New Zealand’s biggest technology projects. He was CIO of the Year in 2014, has held senior leadership positions with New Zealand’s largest insurer IAG over the past decade, most recently as its Chief Information Officer – responsible for the development and integration of platforms for some of New Zealand’s best-known insurance brands including State, AMI and NZI.

Nick Clarke // General Manager Geothermal & SAFETY

Nick joined us in July 2015. He is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of the company’s geothermal operations in New Zealand, along with contributing to developing and delivering on our broader strategic priorities. He also has overall responsibility for health and safety across the business. Nick has experience across a range of sectors offshore and locally, most recently with Spark as Wholesale and International General Manager.



Phil Gibson image

Phil Gibson // General Manager Hydro & Wholesale

Phil is responsible for managing hydro operations, wholesale market activities and sales to large commercial and industrial customers. Phil joined us in 2004 and has held a number of roles across the business including Wholesale Markets Manager, and Head of Technology & Innovation in Consumer Markets. Prior to joining the electricity industry, Phil spent six years in structural engineering roles in Auckland, Wellington and London.

Julia Jack // Chief Marketing Officer

Julia is the custodian of our brand, and responsible for Mercury’s sales and marketing functions. A primary focus is on the design of innovative products and services that inspire our customers to enjoy energy in more wonderful ways. Her background includes more than a decade of senior consumer marketing experience in the telecommunications sector, driving brand and product strategy along with business transformation initiatives and culture change programmes.



William Meek image

William Meek // Chief Financial Officer

William joined us in 1999 and heads the finance, treasury, and investor relations functions. William was previously responsible for generation investment strategy and enterprise risk functions. He has 15 years’ industry experience in risk management, power development, wholesale markets and forecasting.



Tony Nagel image

Tony Nagel // General Manager Corporate Affairs

Tony joined the business in 2004 as General Counsel and now leads our legal, regulatory policy, government relations and corporate communication functions. In 2011, Tony was seconded to the Mighty River Power IPO team until the company’s listing in 2013. He led our re-brand process from 2015 until the launch of the new Mercury brand in 2016. Prior to joining Mercury, Tony spent 10 years at leading corporate law firms in Auckland and Wellington. He also worked in legal, commercial and executive roles in the telecommunications industry with Clear Communications and SamoaTel.  



Matthew Olde image

Matthew Olde // General Manager

Matthew joined Mercury in 2010, and has held roles including CE Metrix, GM Business Strategy and Solutions and, as IPO Project Manager, Matthew was responsible for overseeing preparations for listing in 2013. Prior to joining Mercury, Matthew was an investment banker working in Auckland, Sydney and London.

Marlene Strawson // General Manager People & Performance

Marlene joined us in 2012 and leads the company’s human resources strategy, employee engagement and internal communications. Marlene has more than 25 years’ experience in human resources, with a strong organisational development background including in telecommunications, banking and the health sector.



Lucie Drummond image

Lucie Drummond // Risk Assurance Officer

Since joining the business in 2012, Lucie has held various positions across our legal, customer, corporate affairs and finance teams. Lucie holds responsibility for our approach to integrating sustainability and ensures the appropriate governance and management of risk across all our activities. Lucie also oversees the strategic coordination of our R&D investments portfolio, including e-mobility (Mercury Drive) and stationary energy (solar, distributed storage, grid-scale storage). Prior to joining Mercury, Lucie worked as a lawyer and in sustainability roles in both the UK and New Zealand.
