Interview question

Wu Khoo.

Geothermal Technical Resources Manager, Rotorua.

Tell us about your role.

I lead a team of talented scientists and engineers, operating, optimising and modelling Mercury and its partners’ steamfield assets. Our job is to make sure that our geothermal reservoirs are managed sustainably and fuel supply to our geothermal power stations is available over the long term. Securing some of the land access for geothermal resource, drilling geothermal wells and providing process engineering and geothermal chemistry capabilities to our power stations are also a part of my overall responsibility.

How long have you been at Mercury?

I joined Mercury four years ago to support a drilling campaign at the Ngatamariki Power Station, before taking on the role of Kawerau Field Manager, where I was responsible for the operations of the 105MW power station, steamfield, stakeholder relationships and talented operations team. I transferred to my current position in mid-2016.

My career changes have each been rewarding; providing me with new and exciting challenges and the opportunity to develop my knowledge, skills and leadership capability.

How would you describe the culture at Mercury?

It’s best described by Our Attitudes (Share & Connect, Curious & Original, and Commit & Own It). These underpin our culture that is centred on doing the right thing.
