Choosing
energy efficient appliances for your home is now a lot
easier – just look for the star. Energy Star is an
internationally recognised mark that identifies the most
energy efficient products on the market.
Leaving
appliances on standby wastes approximately $100 million of
electricity each year in New Zealand. More money is spent
powering DVD players when on standby than when they are
actually in use. Energy Star qualified DVD players may use
as little as one quarter of the energy used by non qualified
models when in standby mode. So look for the Energy Star
mark before you buy your next appliance.
You can
find the Energy Star mark on a wide range of appliances such
as TVs, DVD players, computers, home audio and more.
Did
you know?
Printers
often spend 95% of their time sitting idle. Printers that
have earned the Energy Star can cut the equipment’s
electricity usage by over 60%.
Fax
machines are often left on continuously, but actual time in
use usually only amounts to about an hour a day. Fax
machines that have the Energy Star reduce their power usage
when not in use and can reduce energy costs associated with
their use by almost 40%.
