Customer
If you, or someone living
with you, has a serious medical condition and is dependent on electricity for critical medical support,
it is a good idea to fill out our Medical Dependency Form or
call our Customer Services Team on 0800 63 00 01.
We will put you on our Medical Dependency Register and as long as you are on
this Register your power will not be disconnected.
To stay on the Medical Dependency Register you will need to show us proof of
the medical condition or disability within 14 days of being registered,
including information about why you need your power to stay connected. A doctor
will be able to give you a medical certificate with this information.
You can use our Medical Practitioner Form to get the information you need
from your doctor.
When your doctor has filled it out, send it back to us by:
To stay on the Medical Dependency Register, you may need to get further
medical certificates from your doctor every six months to show that you still
need power for medical reasons.
To make it easier for us to help you, we may need to discuss your illness or
disability with other people such as doctors. If you are happy for us to do
this, please tick the box at the bottom of the Medical Dependency Form.
District Health Board
If you are from a District Health Board (DHB) and want to notify us of a patient who
has a serious medical condition and is dependent on electricity for critical medical support,
please complete and submit our District Health Board Medical Dependency Form or
call our Customer Services Team on 0800 63 00 01.
We will check the patient is a Mercury Energy customer and send a letter to both the
patient and the District Health Board notifying them that we have verification from the
District Health Board and that they will be placed on our Medical Dependency Register.
If the patient is not a Mercury Energy customer we will assist in identifying the patient's
energy retailer. We will then contact the patient and the District
Health Board to inform them that they need to contact their energy supplier to register
their medical dependency.
