Spot Market Commentary
Spot market prices for the month of September averaged $52.17 at Haywards.
Overall New Zealand storage reduced by 4% to 38% of maximum capacities. September was a settled month weather-wise, with few extreme events and average temperatures slightly above the norm, the result of a greater number of anti-cyclones (highs) hitting the country. Colder temperatures in the first week of the month saw demand over 5000MW for a few days. Rainfall was largely below average for most of the country, although the Waitaki catchment experienced above average inflows for the whole month, which helped to keep spot prices down.
Spot Market Prices
The Spot Market averaged $52.17 at Haywards for September 2007, a slight increase from $50.77 for August 2007.
Half-hour spot prices at Haywards (per MWh) were relatively settled, ranging from a high of $96.40 for period 19 on 6 September, to a low of $24.86 for period 10 on the 17th of September.

Hydro Storage
Inflows for September for New Zealand were above average for 8 days of the month. Overall South Island storage fell from 38% to 34% of maximum capacity, whilst North Island storage fell from 63% to 56%.
The overall NZ level fell 4% to 38%.

The NZ storage level currently sits well above the EC Operational Minzone, as the following diagram illustrates:
