Safety tips for gas

What to do if you discover a gas leak

Do:

  • Turn gas appliances off, if you still smell gas turn the gas off at the meter.
  • Ventilate the area by opening doors and windows.
  • Leave electrical appliances as they are, don’t turn them off
    or on.
  • Vacate the premises.
  • Call 0800 2 FAULTS (0800 232 858).This is the Mercury Energy Gas Faults line.

Don’t:

  • Light a match, candle or cigarette.
  • Turn electrical appliances or lights on or off.
  • Use any phones including cellphones inside.

Ensure your gas appliances are checked annually by a registered gasfitter.
